Painting Stories on Canvas

With two decades of creative practice behind her, Lucy Anderson has cultivated a career defined by collaboration, colour, and curiosity. From a quiet attic studio in her Glasgow home, Lucy paints colourful scenes infused with the textures of a life well-travelled. A graduate of the Scottish College of Textiles (2004), Lucy balances a full-time design career with her passion for painting — a rhythm she has maintained for years, often painting into the evenings and weekends. Each summer, her work takes centre stage at the Pittenweem Arts Festival, where her evolving practice continues to draw in a loyal and ever-growing audience.

Her background in textiles is ever-present with her intuitive use of colour, pattern, and layered composition. “My paintings draw inspiration from travel, nature, and many years designing textiles which I try to include in one way or another throughout a lot of my work.” she says. “I tend to lean towards painting a mixture of landscapes, abstracts and interior views — all echoing places I’ve seen, people I’ve met, and often textiles I’ve loved and been inspired by.”
